RESIDENCIES
Each year, Works & Process produces more than 25 creative residencies via a network of more than a dozen partner venues in five states. Artists and projects are curated and – starting in 2025 – also selected through an open call. Open call artists were selected by a panel that comprised of Works & Process staff, board member Virginia Johnson, and artists Ephrat Asherie, Mai Lê Hô (LayeRhythm), and Michele Byrd-McPhee (Ladies of Hip-Hop).
Our residency support can span the entire life of a project, from first explorations in the studio to final rehearsals for the premiere, and touring. Expanding from our bubble residency program, pioneered during the COVID-19 pandemic, Works & Process has produced 100+ residencies to date. Projects that have been incubated through these residencies -- and in many cases commissioned and premiered by Works & Process -- have been recognized with Bessie Awards, National Dance Project grants, and toured nationally and internationally with the U.S. State Department.
Our week-long residency package includes fees of $150 per artist/per day (up to $8,400 for a maximum of 8 participants), 24/7 studio access, on-site housing, a transportation stipend, and health insurance enrollment access. Each residency culminates in an open rehearsal or showing for the local community. Check our calendar for details.
